Happy Easter one and all! Jesus Christ is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Easter is a day of light. A day when the darkness has been shattered. Let us shout joyfully to the world that this day is a blessed day indeed.
Many of us awaken on Sunday morning and on this day we feel called to join in on the celebration of Jesus' resurrection. One of my favorite traditions in the Catholic Church is the Easter Vigil. This is a mass that occurs on Saturday, after the sun has set. It is the first celebration of the Easter season. The service begins in darkness. The Easter candle is lit and then the light of that one candle is passed from one person to another until the entire church shines with the lights that each person holds in their hands. It is a wonderful sight to see. Something about candle light is so subtle and yet so powerful. Especially when all of those lights are brought together.
We are all called to join together on Easter. God calls each us to push away all darkness and open our hearts to a renewal with Him. On this day we celebrate that Jesus has conquered death. He has saved us from sin. He cleanses us and gives us the opportunity to reconcile with our Lord. For God says to us I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giving you natural hearts Ez.36:26.
I see today as the newest day of all other days. It is more revitalizing than my birthday or any other day. It is a new day for our souls. This new day is a day in which we can leave behind everything we once were. Free from the sins of our past, free from the barriers that kept us from God. This is the day when we look to God's love. We look to the resurrection of Jesus and see the light of God's love. This love is joy and goodness itself. It is holy and blessed. Therefore, let this love into your life and welcome the dawning of this new day. So that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life Rom.6:4.
Be The Light
