I believe there is something wonderful about candles that has always mesmerized humans. Even in our modern day and age we see them when they are no longer needed. Some are used for prayer and some are used to help us relax while others are used for birthday cakes. These small objects give light and something a little extra. Since this blog is titled "Shine" I wanted to share my reflection on how each of us can be a candle in the world.
A candle is a small simple object. It can do nothing on it's own. First it is created by the candle maker. He designs and makes the candles. Then there is a wonderful candle ready to shine bright. It might be a blue candle, a red candle, a scented candle, or a small candle but still it is a candle and they all can accomplish the same thing. A candle sitting on a shelf may be ready to shine but it does nothing and serves no purpose until it has been lit. However, the candle can not light itself. It must be lit by someone else. Whether it is another person or perhaps the candle maker himself. Finally, when the match has been struck and the wick ignited the candle fulfills its purpose. The flame burns bright and will continue to burn until the candle has nothing left. At certain points the candle might go out, but it will always be lit again so that it might continue to shine. It will shine bright until it has no wick left and the wax has fallen away. It gives everything it has to provide the world with a little bit of light until finally it can shine no more. Memories of the light and of the joy that the candle brought to the world lingers for awhile in our hearts. A few candles leave behind more than just memories. Some candles are used to light other candles and in doing so the light continues to shine for another time. On and on the light shines, from one candle to the next, until all of the world is filled with candles burning bright.
Let the Lord fill your heart with love that it may burn for all the world to see. Let nothing and no one put out the flame of God's love. Shine with everything you've got.
"If your whole body is full of light, and no part of it is in darkness, then it will be as full of light as a lamp illuminating you with its brightness.” Luke 11:36
Be The Light.
